Chemical Systems Engineer

Location: Columbus, IN
Duration: 12-month contract | 40 hrs/week
Schedule: Standard business hours
Compensation: $51–$53/hour

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Chemical Engineer to join the Advanced Chemical Systems & Integration (ACSI) team.
This role supports research and development of chemical reaction systems for advanced emissions control technologies.

You’ll apply expertise in catalysis and reaction engineering in a hands-on lab environment to solve real-world challenges in clean engine technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute chemical performance and aging tests
  • Work with lab-scale catalytic reactors (monolithic / packed-bed)
  • Analyze test data to support design and system improvements
  • Build and modify experimental setups and lab equipment
  • Characterize chemical systems (thermal, chemical, diffusion behavior)
  • Document findings and communicate technical results
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and research teams
  • Support continuous improvement of systems and processes
  • Coordinate work with technicians and/or interns as needed

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Chemical kinetics
    • Heterogeneous catalysis
    • Reaction engineering
  • Hands-on lab / research experience
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with emissions control systems (SCR preferred)
  • Experience with reactor design, construction, or experimental setup
  • Familiarity with catalyst characterization techniques:
  • XRD, BET, TPD/TPR, ICP, electron microscopy
  • Background in academic, industrial, or government R&D labs
  • Strong technical documentation and reporting experience
