CNC/Manual Machinist
Job Type: W2 Contract
Contract Duration: 6 Months, possible extension
Job Location: Houston, Texas 77073
Work Setting: 40 hours per week, fully onsite
Pay Rate: $25.00/hr.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC/Manual Machinist to support machining operations on large industrial components, including rotors, gas turbine components, and related parts. This role involves precision machining, equipment setup, CNC programming, and working within tight tolerances while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Support and promote a strong safety culture with a safe-to-start mindset.
- Align large rotors, gas components, and parts within tight tolerances for machining, grinding, and runout correction.
- Program and operate CNC lathes, Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs), and milling machines.
- Read and interpret OEM drawings, repair instructions, work instructions, and digital routers.
- Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles during machining operations.
- Calculate and set machining factors including speed, feed, coolant flow, depth of cut, and cutting angles.
- Monitor machine operation, identify malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions, and make necessary adjustments.
- Select, align, and secure fixtures, tooling, attachments, and materials for machining operations.
- Support both rotor shop and machine shop operations based on business and customer needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of related machining experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience operating both CNC and manual machining equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Working knowledge of GD&T.
- Basic understanding of algebra and geometry as related to machining processes.

- Advanced machining skills including:
- CNC milling
- CNC lathes
- NC machining and feed rate calculations
- Manual milling
- Manual lathes
- Manual VTL operation
- OD turning
- ID turning
- Grinding and burnishing
- Experience machining steam rotors, gas rotors, cases, gas turbine components, aero components, and repair components.
- Gas turbine repair and machining experience, including work with HSPT, GE10, Frame 3, Frame 5, Frame 6, and Frame 7 rotors and components.
Work Environment
This position supports a manufacturing and repair environment focused on precision machining of industrial and turbine-related components. Flexibility to support multiple shop areas based on operational needs is required.
