Job Title: Data Security Engineer II
Work Arrangement: Fully Remote
Schedule: 40 hours per week, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST
Position Type: Contract with extension and conversion potential
Pay Rate: $68 to $70 per hour

Position Overview

The Data Security Engineer II is a fully remote role responsible for serving as a subject matter expert in enterprise data security solutions, with a primary focus on Microsoft Purview and Securiti.ai. This position supports the enhancement of data loss prevention and data classification programs across structured and unstructured data environments. The engineer will identify risks, gaps, and control weaknesses and develop actionable remediation strategies to protect sensitive data and support regulatory compliance across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate effectively in a fully remote environment while partnering with cross functional teams
• Quickly develop deep expertise in the organization’s data security platforms, including Microsoft Purview and Securiti.ai
• Collaborate with Security, IT, Compliance, Privacy, and Legal teams to support data protection initiatives
• Drive data security projects as an individual contributor and provide oversight of managed service providers
• Design, implement, and maintain data loss prevention policies and controls
• Develop, manage, and optimize data classification frameworks and sensitivity labeling strategies
• Perform data discovery across structured and unstructured systems to identify sensitive or regulated data
• Partner with DLP teams to prevent data exfiltration and ensure policies remain effective and aligned with business needs
• Investigate alerts, analyze trends, and reduce false positives through tuning and data analysis
• Assess risks related to data handling and access and create clear remediation plans
• Communicate technical findings through documentation, reports, and presentations
• Stay current on data security technologies, regulatory trends, and industry best practices

Required Qualifications

• Experience extracting, analyzing, and organizing large or complex datasets from multiple sources
• Hands on experience with the data loss prevention policy lifecycle, including design, implementation, and maintenance
• Strong understanding of data classification concepts and regulatory compliance requirements
• Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including the OSI model
• Excellent analytical and investigative skills with strong attention to detail
• Proven ability to manage and protect highly sensitive and confidential information
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in a remote working environment

Preferred Experience

• Experience with Microsoft Purview and or Securiti.ai
• Experience working with structured and unstructured data connectors and discovery tools
• Exposure to regex tuning or detection logic optimization to minimize false positives
• Background in data protection, privacy, or security operations
