Position Summary

The Principal EPC Project Manager (PM) is responsible for leading high-complexity, utility-scale renewable energy projects through planning, design, execution, and commissioning. This role oversees all aspects of project delivery, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, and stakeholder communication, ensuring successful execution aligned with business objectives.

The PM will manage cross-functional, matrixed teams and coordinate closely with external consultants, engineering firms, construction partners, and key stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Lead utility-scale renewable energy projects and other complex initiatives, often multi-year engagements valued over $100M
  • Define project scope, develop project schedules, and manage evolving timelines
  • Establish and control project budgets, ensuring alignment with cost and schedule targets
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality project outcomes that meet scope, cost, and performance objectives

Planning & Documentation

  • Develop and maintain key project deliverables, including:
    • Project Charters
    • Project Management Plans
    • Scoping Documents
    • Risk Registers
  • Create and manage detailed project schedules using Microsoft Project and/or collaboration with project schedulers

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead cross-functional project teams and ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities
  • Facilitate and document project meetings to track progress and maintain accountability
  • Serve as liaison between internal teams, external vendors, consultants, government entities, and landowners
  • Communicate project updates, risks, and progress clearly to leadership and stakeholders

Financial & Risk Management

  • Monitor project budgets and financial forecasts; reconcile project expenditures
  • Identify risks, issues, and constraints impacting project execution and proactively mitigate them
  • Ensure overall financial and commercial success of projects

Process Improvement & Performance

  • Develop performance metrics and track project performance
  • Recommend process improvements, tools, and best practices to enhance project execution
  • Ensure compliance with company Code of Conduct and ethical leadership standards

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple projects concurrently at various stages of development
  • Develop execution strategies for complex project types (e.g., EPC, Build-Own-Operate)
  • Deliver presentations to executive leadership
  • Collaborate with functional teams to ensure successful delivery of project milestones

Compensation & Travel

  • Weekly per diem: $550/week
  • Requires regular travel to project sites
  • Flexible schedule required to support project demands

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience within renewable energy (wind, solar, battery storage, etc.)
  • Strong project management, prioritization, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, and negotiation)
  • Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience leading complex, large-scale projects involving diverse stakeholders
  • Proven ability to identify and manage project risks
  • Strong stakeholder reporting experience, including communication with senior leadership

Technical Skills

  • SAP experience
  • Scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution
  • 7+ years of experience in applied engineering and/or project management
  • PMP certification preferred

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform frequent walking
  • Capable of climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
  • Ability to lift, move, or carry items up to 35 lbs
  • Must maintain close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus
  • Regular use of computers and communication tools required
  • May be exposed to:
    • Dust, fumes, odors, and airborne particles
    • High noise environments, confined spaces, and elevated locations
    • Extreme temperatures and prolonged outdoor conditions
    • Mechanical, electrical, thermal, chemical, and high-voltage hazards
