Epitec is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Process Engineer for an opportunity with our automotive client in Sterling Heights, MI. As a Manufacturing Process Engineer, the candidate will play a pivotal role in launching new gear machining lines and driving continuous improvement across safety, quality, and productivity.

  • This is an ongoing W2 contract with potential for conversion
  • This is an onsite position in Sterling Heights, MI 

Top Responsibilities:

  • Support manufacturing process engineering for gear machining (launch + ongoing production support)
  • Partner with the HQ launch team and suppliers to deliver an incoming manufacturing line that meets safety/quality/cost/delivery targets
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, throughput, and productivity (lean/variability reduction)
  • Own launch quality deliverables: complete PPAP documentation and ensure process capability at SOP
  • Lead problem solving: investigate issues, build action plans, verify corrective actions for internal and supplier processes (8D/5-Why/CAPA)
  • Lead/process audits to ensure discipline and compliance with Powertrain/plant guidelines
  • Create/maintain process documentation: process sheets, work instructions, quality methods, standard work
  • Identify throughput constraints and execute root-cause fixes to achieve Rate of Climb targets
  • Perform ergonomic evaluations and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with plant/corporate/government/environmental requirements; support ISO 14001 and internal ISO audits

Top Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of related manufacturing/process engineering experience (machining environment strongly preferred)
  • Gear machining process experience preferred, especially hypoid bevel gear operations (blanking, milling, grinding, heat treat, shot peening, lapping)
  • Strong quality launch and documentation experience (PPAP; plus FMEA/DOE experience preferred)
  • Proven problem-solving and corrective action capability (8D, 5-Why; CAPA mindset)
  • Lean / Six Sigma experience using tools like 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, Value Stream Mapping; DMAIC/DMADV 
  • Audit experience (process audits, ISO support/auditing exposure a plus; ISO 14001 familiarity preferred)
  • Data/quality analysis tools preferred: QDAS, Minitab
  • Metrology/gear inspection experience preferred: Klingelnberg P40, Gleason Nano, gear CMM
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
